Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 â which do I need?

Location decides: Type 1 (10/350 Âµs, Iimp-rated) at the service entrance of structures with an LPS or overhead supply; Type 2 (8/20 Âµs) at distribution boards â the workhorse; Type 3 within 10 m of sensitive equipment, always downstream of a Type 2. Most industrial sites need a coordinated set, not one device.

What is Uc and how do I choose it?

Maximum continuous operating voltage the SPD tolerates forever. For a 230/400 V TN system, Uc â¥ 275 V is standard; unstable rural supply or IT systems need higher. Too low ages the SPD; too high raises the let-through voltage.

Iimp, In and Imax â what's the difference?

Iimp: 10/350 Âµs impulse a Type 1 conducts (direct-strike share). In: 8/20 Âµs nominal current a Type 2 handles 15+ times â the rating coordination is built on. Imax: single-shot 8/20 Âµs survival. Do I still need SPDs if I already have a lightning protection system?

Yes â the LPS handles the direct strike path; induced surges still enter on every conductor. IEC 62305-4 explicitly requires coordinated SPDs at the zone boundaries. LPS without SPDs protects the building and leaves the electronics exposed.

Where do SPDs go in a solar plant?

Both ends of every DC string run over ~10 m (combiner box and inverter DC input), the inverter AC side, and the plant's LV/communication interfaces â per IEC TR 63227. Our Solar PV SPD category is organised by exactly these positions.

Are LPES SPDs a drop-in replacement for DEHN or OBO devices?

Where the electrical parameters match (type, Uc, In/Iimp, Up, poles), yes â physically DIN-rail compatible and spec-matched. Send the part number; we confirm the equivalent and the parameter table, and say plainly when we don't have a match.
